The World Health Organization released new guidance to help countries transition to midwifery models of care – where midwives serve as the main care provider for women and newborns throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.
This new guidance provides health system leaders, policymakers, government officials, and partners with:
- A structured transition framework and assessment tool
- Evidence-based practices to inform policy and planning
- Support for countries at any stage of transition
