Countries moving forward with an MNH Acceleration Plan

As of May 2026, over 50 countries have developed MNH Acceleration Plans to reach the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere targets.
At the International Maternal Newborn Health Conference in Nairobi in March 2026, 36 of these countries gathered and decided on priority actions to accelerate progress for maternal and newborn health and stillbirth reduction, for the period 2026-2030.

These Acceleration Plans detail the priority activities and required resources to boost maternal and newborn survival and the reduction of stillbirths. They plans are a chance to get back on track towards the global targets for maternal mortality (SDG 3.1), newborn mortality (SDG 3.2) and stillbirths (Every Newborn Action Plan goal 2), and require all partners to work towards that:
- The Ministry of Health leads the development of the MNH Acceleration Plan
- The Ministry of Health engages with MNH stakeholders through existing coordination mechanisms, and as part of the country’ existing strategies for reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health.
- National, regional and global partners support the Ministry of Health in developing and implementing the plan, as well as with resource mobilization, monitoring and accountability.
The plans will be reviewed, renewed or updated by any emerging evidence until 2030.
