UNFPA and Maternity Foundation launched the first phase of the 10 Million Safer Births Initiative in Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Mary of Denmark, the initiative aims to support 10 million safer births across Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030, where 70% of global maternal deaths occur.

Delivered through UNFPA’s Maternal and Newborn Health Fund, the initiative strengthens maternal and newborn care by equipping midwives and frontline health workers with digital and hands-on tools. This includes the Safe Delivery+ app, which engages health professionals in simulation-based training on lifesaving maternal and newborn healthcare.
